Holocaust Memorial in Minsk Desecrated by Teens--Belarussian KGB

(November 14, 2006)

MINSK. Nov 14 (Interfax) - A little known group, the White Rus Aryan Resistance Front, is believed responsible for desecrating the Yama monument to Holocaust victims in Minsk, the State Security Committee (KGB) reported, saying it regards the incident as a case of teenage hooliganism.

"Belarussian KGB has no information on the activities of the White Rus Aryan Resistance Front," KGB information center told Interfax Tuesday, adding that a leaflet from the group was found at the scene of the vandalism.

The KGB currently sees no need for it to participate in the investigation of the incident, nor does it regard the leaflet as a national security threat.

Earlier Minsk police told Interfax that the Yama monument was defaced with "a swastika drawn with white paint and several words - presumably in Hebrew - and that a White Rus Aryan Resistance Front leaflet was left at the scene."
