Georgian Newspaper Spreads Blood Libel

(August 11, 2003)

The July 23, 2003 issue of the Georgian newspaper Mdzleveli, named after a small political party of the same name, contained an article perpetuating the medieval blood libel against Jews, UCSJ’s Caucasus Bureau reported. The issue, containing an article entitled “Georgia is Rule by Masons!”, is being distributed near Tblisi metro stations. The author of the article claims that during religious services, Jews vow to “tear out the heart and kill the best Christian” they can find. Another article in the paper calls for the end of “American/Zionist” influence in Georgia.
