Poll Finds Majority of Muscovites Have Anti-Migrant Sentiments

Over half of Muscovites do not think that the presence of migrant workers in the capital is acceptable, according to a new poll reported in an August 2, 2008 report by the Siti-FM news web site. Almost two thirds of respondents agree that migrants should be expelled from the city, according to the study by the Miklukho-Maklaya Institute. The report quotes Mayor Yuri Luzhkov warning that the city is experiencing a crime wave by migrants, an assertion that some human rights activists question.
