Islamic Extremists Spreading Antisemitic Literature in Kazakhstan

(July 27, 2001)

An article in the July 17, 2001 issue of the Russian newspaper Vremya-MN reports that the Islamic movement Hizb ut-Tahrir has been spreading antisemitic leaflets in Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan. The leaflets, which are being put into mailboxes and pasted onto walls in several parts of the city, sharply criticize the governments of several Arab states for betraying the Palestinians into the hands of the "bloodthirsty Jews" and the "enemy of Islam-the USA." The leaflets also call for the recreation of a pan-Islamic Caliphate.
