Two Charged With Hate Crime in Borovichi, Russia

Two residents of Borovichi, Russia (Novgorod region) face hooliganism, aggravated assault and hate crimes charges after attacking a man with knives and hammers, according to a May 7, 2008 report by the Rosbalt news service. The men face up to ten years in prison if convicted. According to the indictment, on January 22, 2008 the men attacked an ethnic Russian whom they thought was an ethnic minority from the Caucasus. He was seriously injured as a result.
