Jewish Teenager Beaten in Ulyanovsk, Local Community Building Vandalized

(April 25, 2002)

On the evening of April 17, a Jewish youth leader named Aleksandr Golynsky was savagely beaten near his home and as a result is in serious condition in a local hospital with a concussion and several injuries to his torso, according to UCSJ’s Ulyanovsk monitor Anna Livshitz. Because of his head injuries, the 11th grader has so far not been able to remember many details of the attack.

Three days later, on the anniversary of Adolf Hitler’s birthday (April 20), the central office of the Ulyanovsk Jewish community was vandalized. The words “Kikes to Israel” and “The Ministry of Health warns that associating with Israel is bad for your health” were painted onto the fence surrounding the building.
