The son of a Bukharan Jewish leader was beaten and robbed in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, according to a February 7, 2006 report by the AEN news agency. Grigory Patrashin, an 18 year old who teaches courses on Jewish history and traditions at the Simkho Jewish cultural center in Tashkent, was reportedly set upon by four men who knocked him to the ground, kicked him several times, and then robbed him. His mother—Tamara Akilovaya, who heads the cultural center—told AEN that her son was hospitalized with damage to his eye and other injuries. Police are investigating the incident.
